A study on the Relationship between Self-esteem, Health Locus of Control and Health Promoting Behavior of College Women


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify relationship between Selfesteem, Health Locus of Control and Health Promoting Behavior.
The subjects of th study were 333 college women at D University in Seoul.
The tools used for this study were Selfesteem scale developed by Rosenberg(1965)(by Jung, 1974), Health Locus of Control developed Wallston et al(1978)(by modified Lee,1994), Health Promoting Behavior Scale developed by Walker et al(1987)were modified by resesrcher.
This descriptivecorrelational study were analyzed by descriptive statistics,ttest,ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, Stepwise Multiple Regression using SPSS/PC+program.
The results were as follows:
1. Hypotheses 1 that the higher the score of selfesteem , the higher the score of the level of health promoting behavior was supported ( y= .6449, p < .001 ).
Hypotheses 2 that the higher the score of internal health locus of control, the higher the score of the level of health promoting behavior was supported ( r= .2293, p < .001 ).
2. By means of multiple regression analysis, selfesteem provided explained 41.6% of health promoting behavior.
3. General Characteristic variables significantly related to the selfesteem were a major field of study, religion, pocket money,experience in learning health education. General Characteristic variables significantly related to the internal health locus of control were religion, experience in learning health education.
